5.2 How Review Updates Sync to the Field (Real-Time & Offline Behavior)
How acceptance, rejection, comments, markup, and N/A changes appear instantly in the Pathwave mobile app—and how the system handles low-connectivity environments.
Overview
Pathwave is built to support real-time collaboration between reviewers and field teams. The moment a reviewer accepts a photo, rejects it, adds markup, removes an N/A, or creates a Missing Photo, the mobile app updates automatically—giving crews immediate visibility into what needs attention.
This article explains how review updates sync, how offline behavior is handled, and what field users should expect during active Quality Reviews.
1. Real-Time Sync for Review Actions
Whenever a reviewer performs an action, the mobile app updates instantly (as long as the device is online). This includes:
Accepted Photos
- Item turns green
- Folder indicator updates
- No further action required
Rejected Photos
- Item turns red
- Rejection reason appears
- Comments and markup display immediately
- Re-Take button becomes available
Resubmitted Photos Reviewed
- If accepted → item turns green
- If rejected again → remains red with updated comments/markup
Missing Photo Created
- Item appears with a purple badge in the app
- Field user sees any reviewer notes
N/A Removed
-
Item reappears as:
- Photos Not Taken, or
- Rejected, depending on status
-
Field user now must capture the required photo
All of these updates appear without refreshing or reloading—Pathwave syncs continuously in the background.
2. How the App Handles Offline Conditions
Field work often occurs in locations with poor or no signal. Pathwave is built to ensure continuity in these situations.
While Offline:
- Field users can still:
- Capture replacement photos
- Submit Missing Photos
- Mark items N/A (if necessary)
- Capture original required photos
- Actions queue locally until signal is restored
- Queued submissions automatically upload
- Review indicators update
- Reviewer feedback syncs to the device
- Messaging threads update with earlier timestamps
- No user intervention is required
3. How Reviewers’ Updates Appear to Field Users
Updates from reviewers appear on the mobile app through:
Color-Badged Indicators
- 🔴 Rejected
- 🔵 Resubmitted (Pending)
- 🟣 Missing
- 🟢 Accepted
- N/A (if still applicable)
Photo-Level Details
- Rejection reason
- Reviewer comments
- Markup overlays
- Comparison views (original vs. replacement)
Messaging Updates
- Reviewer replies appear in the photo’s message thread
- Thread history remains intact
This ensures complete clarity, even during complex or multi-step corrections.
4. Behavior When Multiple Reviewers Are Participating
If multiple reviewers are active on the same review:
- Field users see all comments
- All markup surfaces
- All rejection/acceptance decisions sync in real time
- Corrections are tied to the photo, not the specific reviewer
This prevents contradictory instructions and maintains a unified communication thread.
5. What Happens After the Field Submits a Correction
When a replacement photo is submitted:
Immediate Field Feedback
- Item turns blue (Resubmitted)
- Original + replacement appear for verification
- No further action is required until reviewer responds
Reviewer Perspective
- Photo moves to Resubmitted Photos
- Reviewer performs Accept or Reject
- Field app updates instantly
This loop continues until the photo meets the requirement.
6. How the System Prevents Errors
Pathwave ensures review integrity by:
- Tracking whether a replacement was submitted via the Re-Take button
- Maintaining correct linkage between rejected photos and replacements
- Preventing replacements from being logged as new photos
- Keeping a full historical chain of actions, comments, and markups
This ensures that reviewers always have the correct context for every photo.
⚠️ Caution
If a field user does not replace a rejected photo using the Re-Take flow from within that rejected item:
-
The system cannot attach the replacement to the original rejection
-
The photo will not appear in Resubmitted Photos
-
Reviewers will not see the replacement
-
The rejected item remains unresolved
-
Review completion will be blocked
Always select Re-Take from inside the rejected item.
7. Why Real-Time Sync Is Critical
This capability ensures:
- Faster corrective cycles
- Reduced rework
- Immediate field alignment
- Better subcontractor performance
- Higher-quality closeouts and PQA outcomes
- More predictable review timelines
- Clearer communication between office and field
Pathwave’s real-time sync is designed to keep teams fully aligned—even in dynamic, fast-paced field environments.
